Groceries are shipped in once per week to the mainland, and at times, great local produce is available. There are two grocery stores, as well as a small fish and produce market right in town. There is also a convenient store and another grocery store as you make your way to the south end of the island.  Generally, the stores are well stocked, but during the busy seasons, they tend to run out of the basics (milk, bread, and eggs).

Liquor Stores

There are three liquor stores on the island stocked with an assortment of beer, wines and spirits.  Although beer and wine are generally pricier than in the U.S., the spirits are definitely a great deal.  Two of the stores are located right in Hope Town.  Hope Town Wine & Spirits is located across the harbour (accessible only by boat) at Lighthouse Marina, and Lighthouse Liquors is in the center of town.  The last liquor store, A & E Liquors, is located closer to the White Sound Area.

Medical Services

There is a small clinic in Hope Town that is open to visitors and residents.  Although there is a $30 fee (not including medication) for visitors, the nurse is very knowledgeable, and often has the medication and services you need, saving you a trip to Marsh Harbour.

Monday to Friday 9:00am - 1:00pm

The closest hospital is in Nassau, as there are none in Abaco.  In the case of emergencies, there is a government-run clinic in Marsh Harbour.  Hope Town also has a volunteer Fire & Rescue team, and BASRA (Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association), who are on-call for emergency situations.  In severe emergencies, patients are airlifted to Nassau, or Florida.
